Analysis of interaction parameters between ionizing radiation and monoclonal antibodies: A theoretical study

Halime Erzen Yıldız, Berna Oto, Hamza Tunç

Abstract

Aim: To evaluate the gamma-ray shielding properties of EGFR-targeting monoclonal antibodies by determining the mass attenuation coefficient (μ/ρ), effective atomic number (Zeff), electron density (Nel), exposure buildup factor (EBF), and energy absorption buildup factor (EABF).Materials and Methods: Theoretical μ/ρ values were calculated using WinXCom software, and Zeff, Nel, EBF, and EABF were determined for different photon energies and mean free paths. Results: μ/ρ, Zeff, and Nel decreased in the Compton scattering region, while EBF and EABF reached their maximum values. Conclusion: The results indicate that the gamma-ray attenuation The gamma-ray shielding characteristics of monoclonal antibodies are primarily determined by their elemental composition, particularly the predominance of low atomic number elements (C, H, N, and O).
