Applications

The kit that satisfies AERB SOP without requiring the radiation-safety officer to assemble from multiple suppliers

Tc-99m spill response · SPECT

Light-shielding decay drum · Bind-It™ + full PPE + cordon pack for a Tc-99m vial drop, syringe break or kit-reconstitution spill. Drum holds the contaminated absorbent paper for ~ 72 h Tc-99m decay-out before transfer to biomedical waste.

I-131 spill response · therapy facility

Mid-shielding decay drum (T½ = 8 days · ~ 80-day hold to 0.1 % residual). Bind-It™ surface chemistry + full PPE. Critical for I-131 therapy ward spill response where the activity per drop can be 75–250 mCi.

FDG / Ga-68 PET spill response

PET variant kit · PET-tier decay drum (F-18 ~ 18 h, Ga-68 ~ 11 h hold). Includes wiper + brush for dispense-bench surface decontamination. Cu-64 work covered by the same PET tier.

Lu-177 theranostic spill response

PET variant + EDTA chelating chemistry. Lu-177 (T½ = 6.7 days · ~ 67-day hold) plus the β contribution requires the PET-tier decay drum minimum. EDTA helps with the chelating chemistry leftover from PSMA-617 / FAPI labelling buffers.

AERB radiation-safety-officer kit requirement

AERB licence renewal requires a ready-deployable decontamination kit at every dispensing site. The Saxsons kit lines up with the standard list — PPE + chemistry + decay-hold container + cordon — without the radiation-safety officer having to assemble from multiple suppliers.

Top-up + chemistry-only orders

Existing facilities with a Saxsons (or other) decay drum can re-order chemistry-only consumables (Bind-It, PPE, polybags, tags) without re-buying the lead drum.

Why Saxsons™ Decontamination Kit?

Bind-It™
Surface-chemistry decontaminant

Standard radiopharmacy spill-response chemistry. Bind-It™ fixes radioactive contamination to a wipe-cloth substrate so the surface can be wiped clean in one pass; the wipe-cloth then goes into the lead-lined decay drum for half-life-based hold. Reduces the number of wet-decontamination passes per spill event.

Pb drum
Decay-hold container included

The decontamination kit and the decay-hold drum belong together — the contaminated wipe-cloths, polybags, gloves and PPE from the spill response need a Pb-shielded container to hold them during the half-life-based decay. The kit includes the drum, sized to the SPECT or PET facility tier.

AERB-ready
Satisfies the radiation-safety SOP

AERB licence renewal requires every dispensing facility to hold a ready-deployable decontamination kit. The Saxsons kit lines up with the AERB SOP item list — PPE + chemistry + decay-hold container + cordon + signage — without the radiation-safety officer having to source from multiple suppliers and validate compatibility.

FAQ

Radioactive spill response kit — questions we hear from Indian NM RSOs

What the first five minutes of a hot-lab spill look like, why Bind-It chemical decontaminant beats general detergent, why the kit ships with its own decay drum, and the SPECT vs PET variant choice.

Q.What happens in the first five minutes after a radioactive spill in an Indian NM hot lab?

Everything depends on being ready before the spill. AERB Safety Code for Nuclear Medicine Facility requires every NM department to hold a decontamination kit adjacent to the hot lab and to have run rehearsed spill drills. The first five minutes are: cordon the spill area (rope + signage), don PPE (gloves, mask, coverall, shoe covers), apply Bind-It or equivalent chemical decontaminant to fix the activity to the surface, cover with absorbent, collect into the shielded waste-bin, tag for decay-hold. A pre-packed kit turns those five minutes into a checklist rather than an improvisation.

Q.Why Bind-It chemical decontaminant instead of general lab detergent?

General detergents dissolve the activity into the wash liquid — the contamination moves from the surface into the mop water and spreads. Bind-It (a chelating decontaminant) chemically binds the radionuclide to the surface as an insoluble complex so it can be lifted off with absorbent instead of being washed around. Post-decontamination surface counts drop 2–3 orders of magnitude compared to detergent-only cleaning.

Q.Why does the kit include a lead-lined decay drum?

The absorbent + contaminated PPE + gloves + covers from the response go into the decay drum for the decay hold before biomedical-waste disposal. Without the drum in the kit, the department has to walk contaminated material across the floor to a distant decay-store — the corridor becomes a secondary contamination path. The drum is at the spill site so the collected waste transfers straight in.

Q.Does the kit come in SPECT and PET variants?

Yes. The SPECT variant carries the shielding tier and PPE class appropriate for Tc-99m / I-131 spill response. The PET variant steps up the shielding tier of the decay drum to handle F-18 / Ga-68 / Lu-177 spills where 511 keV or higher-energy contamination is the risk. The department picks the variant that matches the isotope mix it handles.

Q.Is this a distributor-supplied kit or Saxsons-manufactured?

The Saxsons Decontamination Kit is a Saxsons own-brand product — designed and manufactured in India by Saxsons Healthcare Pvt. Ltd. under SKU NM-045 in an ISO 9001 / ISO 13485 approved plant. The kit components, quantities, PPE class and decay-drum shielding tier are configured for the spill-response protocols of Indian NM departments and the AERB Safety Code framework.
