Applications

Daily radiochemical-purity release — Tc, F, Ga, Lu, I, Cu, in one instrument

Tc-99m kit release

Daily release of cold-kit Tc-99m radiopharmaceuticals — MDP, DMSA, MIBI, ECD, MAG3 — %RCP against the monograph threshold before the morning patient list. Two-strip ITLC method, 2–3 min per release.

F-18 PET tracer release

Per-batch [18F]FDG, [18F]NaF and other F-18 tracer release — radiochemical purity above the Eur.Ph. monograph limit before despatch to the imaging room.

Ga-68 PET tracer release

Per-batch Ga-68 DOTATATE / DOTATOC / PSMA-11 release from the generator-fed labelling rig — %RCP > 95 % gating the patient injection.

Lu-177 theranostic QC

Per-batch Lu-177 DOTATATE, PSMA-617 and FAPI release — %RCP ≥ 99 % per the labelling chemistry expectation, paired with the dose calibrator activity figure on the batch record.

I-131 capsule + solution QC

Sealed I-131 capsule and oral-solution batch QC against the Eur.Ph. monograph — chemical and radiochemical purity verified before dispense to the therapy room.

IIP / investigator-initiated

Investigator-initiated radiopharmaceutical work — novel chelator + Lu-177 / Ga-68 / Cu-64 labelling — uses the same instrument with a custom method, separately versioned in the software.

Why miniGITA Single?

BGO + PMT
OFA probe chemistry

The default OFA (One Fits All) probe is a V-shaped BGO scintillator + PMT — a single probe that spans the entire nuclear-medicine gamma range, from the 140 keV Tc-99m photopeak to the 511 keV F-18 / Ga-68 annihilation line and the Lu-177 113 / 208 keV emissions. One probe, one calibration, every routine isotope the hot lab handles. Specialty work — α / β characterisation or self-shielded spectrum analysis — uses the ZnS(Tl) Alpha or 3SA PMT probes on the same instrument chassis.

%RCP
Released against monograph

QC software computes peak areas, derives %RCP, and compares against the monograph threshold per isotope. The operator sees PASS / FAIL against the threshold; the audit trail captures every release, signature and override.

21 CFR 11
Audit-trail-ready

AERB inspection looks for the chain: who released which batch against which monograph. The instrument software ships 21 CFR Part 11 compliant — every method version, every release record, every operator signature is timestamped and retained.

FAQ

Radio-TLC scanner — questions we hear from Indian radiopharmacy teams

What radiochemical purity actually measures, why manual cut-and-count QC burns time and dose, which isotopes miniGITA reads, and how it fits USP <823> and the AERB batch-release chain.

Q.What QC test on every radiopharmaceutical batch does miniGITA Single automate?

Radiochemical purity (RCP) is a USP <823> mandatory release test for every clinical radiopharmaceutical batch — Tc-99m-labelled kits, F-18 tracers, Ga-68 peptides, Lu-177 theranostics. The test measures what fraction of the total activity is actually bound to the intended targeting molecule (as opposed to free pertechnetate, free F-18 or free lutetium). miniGITA Single is a radio-TLC (thin-layer chromatography) scanner that reads the TLC strip, integrates the peaks, calculates RCP and produces the batch-release record — automated instead of hand-cut-and-count.

Q.What is the alternative if the department does not run radio-TLC?

The manual alternative is to cut the TLC strip into segments after developing, count each segment on a dose calibrator or well counter, and sum the activity per band by hand. This works but is slow (10–15 minutes per QC), operator-dose-heavy (repeated handling of the developed strip), error-prone (mis-cut segments, arithmetic slips) and produces a hand-written record instead of an audit-trail file. Automating it with miniGITA drops QC turnaround to a few minutes per batch and generates a signed digital record.

Q.Which isotopes does miniGITA Single read?

Every clinical isotope that appears on a radio-TLC strip — Tc-99m (SPECT kits), F-18 (PET tracers including FDG), Ga-68 (PSMA, DOTATATE, FAPI), Lu-177 (theranostics), I-131 and In-111. The single-detector configuration reads gamma and beta emitters through the appropriate detector setup.

Q.How does miniGITA fit into the AERB / USP <823> QC framework?

USP <823> requires documented RCP for every batch before patient release; AERB Safety Code for Nuclear Medicine Facility expects the same RCP record as part of the batch-release chain. miniGITA generates the auditable digital file per QC run — timestamp, operator, TLC method, integrated peaks, calculated RCP, pass/fail against the specification. That file is what AERB / EU GMP Annex 3 inspection reads to verify the QC chain.

Q.How is miniGITA Single supplied and supported in India?

Distributed across India by Saxsons Group. Supply covers the scanner, TLC-method library for the department's isotope mix, commissioning against the hot-lab QC workflow and applications training. Imported under CDSCO Medical Devices Rules 2017.
