A dedicated vial shield holds the vial in a fixed geometry with a lead-glass side window (so the volume and label are visible), a septum-friendly cap (so the syringe needle can withdraw without opening the shield), and per-isotope Pb thickness sized to the photon energy actually being handled. Q.What is the beta + gamma hybrid variant for?

Lu-177, Y-90 and other β-emitting therapy isotopes emit both beta particles and gamma photons. Beta shielding wants a low-Z material (Perspex / PMMA) on the inside to avoid bremsstrahlung production; gamma shielding wants a high-Z material (lead) on the outside. The β + γ hybrid variant uses a Perspex inner liner inside a lead outer wall — beta stops in the Perspex without producing bremsstrahlung, gamma is attenuated by the lead. The correct shielding architecture for Lu-177 PRRT and Y-90 microspheres dispensing.
