Artificial Intelligence in Chemical Research and Innovation for a Greener, Sustainable Future

Abstract

The Zaria Chapter is one of the most active chapters of the Chemical Society of Nigeria, organizing annual scientific conferences, workshops, public lectures and capacity-building programmes that bring together researchers, educators, industrial practitioners and students from across Nigeria and beyond.Prior to the formation of Chemical Society of Nigeria, Zaria Chapter, a team of Chemists at Ahmadu Bello University started what was known as Zaria Chemical Society.This team was led by late Prof G.F.S. Harrison (Dr G.F.S. Harrison then) of the Department of Chemistry of the University, due to sheer interest to promote the teaching and practice of chemistry.Regular feature of the activities then, included periodic newsletter and monthly seminars among others.With time as the number of chemists and those in related fields increased in Zaria due to increase in number of tertiary institutions, it became imperative for Zaria to have its Chapter of the Society and one was formed.With this development, Kaduna State became the first State with two Chapters (Kaduna and Zaria Chapters).The Zaria Chapter was very vibrant and her activities were at its peak with the hosting of the 15 th annual international conference of the CSN in September 1990.The LOC of the conference was chaired by Prof S. A. Thomas.After this successful outing, Chapter activities started nose diving until the mid 90s.
