Per-isotope workflow · Tungsten Vial Shield

Six isotopes / workflows — and the tungsten tier each one picks.

The tungsten vial-shield tier the radiopharmacist picks is set by the isotope photopeak energy and the workflow throughput. The construction style (1-part slide-lock, 3-part magnetic-cap, 2-part cap-and-base) follows from the dispensing pattern. This page is the per-isotope build sheet.

Tc-99m kit dispensing — ergonomic option

Photopeak

140 keV photopeak

Tier + construction

5 mm Tungsten · 1-part (slide lock)

Workflow

SPECT routine dispensing where the operator wants the more compact, lighter chassis option. Slide-lock closure for fast cycle time on cold-kit dispensing; reduced cumulative wrist load across a 30-dispense shift.

AERB record: Routine SPECT extremity-dose monitoring chain; cumulative extremity-dose budget benefits from the lighter chassis pickup.

[18F]FDG and PET unit doses

Photopeak

511 keV annihilation

Tier + construction

20 mm Tungsten · 3-part (body + lid + magnetic top cap)

Workflow

Routine FDG dispensing — 30+ doses per shift at 350–550 MBq each. Per dispense: lift the magnetic top cap, insert the needle through the lid hole, withdraw the dose, return the cap. The body never moves. The lid never moves. Only the cap moves; the cap stays on the shield surface.

AERB record: TLD ring-badge dose log; PET licence covers the dispensing-line operation; per-shift dispense count in the QA log.

Ga-68 PET tracer dispensing

Photopeak

511 keV annihilation

Tier + construction

20 mm Tungsten · 3-part (body + lid + magnetic top cap)

Workflow

Per-generator elution + DOTATATE / DOTATOC / PSMA-11 labelling + 1–4 patient doses at 100–200 MBq. Same 20 mm tier as FDG; the routine PET dispensing build covers the Ga-68 workflow without configuration change.

AERB record: Generator licence + dispensing log; same dose-monitoring chain as FDG.

High-activity PET source vial

Photopeak

511 keV annihilation

Tier + construction

30 mm Tungsten · 2-part (cap + base)

Workflow

Source-vial multi-dose dispensing for high-throughput PET. Per loading: lift cap, place vial in base, return cap. Per dispense: lift cap, withdraw dose, return cap. The 2-part design optimises for vial loading + reload across the day; cap-off motion is straight up-and-down, no thread engagement, no rotation.

AERB record: Same as routine PET but with cumulative extremity-dose flag from the dispensing-line activity profile.

Lu-177 theranostic dispensing

Photopeak

113 / 208 keV doublet + minor 511 keV annihilation

Tier + construction

30 mm Tungsten · 2-part (cap + base)

Workflow

Per-batch Lu-177 DOTATATE / PSMA-617 / FAPI dispensing — 4–7.4 GBq per theranostic patient. The 30 mm tungsten tier delivers high per-millimetre attenuation across the photon contribution in a compact chassis; the 2-part design simplifies the vial loading at therapeutic activities.

AERB record: Theranostic licence + per-batch dose log; patient release records paired with the dispense audit trail.

Source-vial decay storage between dispenses

Photopeak

Per source isotope

Tier + construction

Match source-vial tier (20 / 30 mm Tungsten)

Workflow

Between dispense campaigns the source vial stays in the same shield it was dispensed from — no vial transfer between shields. Tungsten chassis stays on the bench; vial stays inside; decay continues; the cap stays closed via the magnetic seal (PET tier) or by gravity on the base (high-activity tier).

AERB record: In-vial decay-storage period logged against the source-vial lot record.
