Saxsons™ Shielded Infusion Pump Shieldβ / γ Hybrid Cabinet for Lu-177 PRRT, Y-90 and I-131 Patient Infusion
Saxsons own-brand shielded cabinet that wraps the patient-side syringe pump and the radioactive syringe for the duration of the infusion. The variant matrix covers the theranostic spectrum: lead-only tiers for routine SPECT, I-131 oral-solution and PET dispensing work, plus a Perspex + lead β/γ hybrid that absorbs the Lu-177 / Y-90 beta before it reaches the lead — the bremsstrahlung-minimising order that matters for the highest-dose phase of PRRT. Acrylic outer chassis, engraved lead-glass viewing window for tubing and flow inspection, IV-pole-cut variant for cart-mounted patient transport. ISO 9001 / ISO 13485 manufactured. Designed and manufactured in India by Saxsons Healthcare Pvt. Ltd.
Key Features
- β / γ hybrid variant places a Perspex inner layer inside the lead outer — the right shielding order for Lu-177 and Y-90: the Perspex absorbs the beta BEFORE it reaches the lead, eliminating the bremsstrahlung source; the lead outer layer then catches the primary Lu-177 113 / 208 keV gamma and any residual photons
- Lead-only variants in two tiers for Tc-99m / I-131 oral-solution / lower-energy work where bremsstrahlung is not the dominant pathway — the right chassis weight for the right isotope class
- Multiple chassis sizes — compact, standard and tall pump form factors, plus a high-volume option for the 50 cc PRRT infusion syringe
- 50 cc syringe variant sized for high-volume Lu-177 PRRT — the standard 7.4 GBq Lu-177 DOTATATE dose is delivered in a 50 mL infusion over ~30 minutes
- Engraved lead-glass viewing window lets the operator monitor the infusion flow, the syringe pump display and the patient tubing without unshielding the source

- Compatible with standard syringe-pump form factors used in PRRT and theranostic-suite workflows
- Designed and manufactured in India by Saxsons Healthcare Pvt. Ltd. — short-lead-time replacement parts and on-site service support

Applications
The cabinet for the highest-dose phase of theranostic therapy — patient administration
Lu-177 DOTATATE / PSMA-617 PRRT infusion
The standard 7.4 GBq Lu-177 dose is delivered over ~30 minutes via syringe pump into a slow IV drip. The β/γ hybrid variant wraps the pump and syringe — the Perspex inner absorbs the β before it reaches the lead, the lead outer catches the 113 / 208 keV γ. Published staff dose for PRRT administration is dominated by this step (Riveira-Martin 2023: 69 % of total staff dose in 19 % of procedure time). The cabinet is built for exactly that phase.
Y-90 microsphere or peptide infusion
Y-90 is essentially pure β (E_max 2.28 MeV). Raw lead in the β path generates bremsstrahlung at clinically meaningful rates. The β/γ hybrid variant is the right shielding order: Perspex first to absorb the β with minimal bremsstrahlung; lead second to handle anything else. Inverting the order — lead first — generates the worst-case bremsstrahlung the shield is supposed to prevent.
I-131 oral-solution decant and administration
I-131 at 364 keV is a lead-only pathway. The lead-only variant family covers the syringe-pump-driven oral-solution route used in some I-131 therapy workflows (paediatric, dysphagia, repeat fractionated dosing) in the right chassis form factors.
Routine Tc-99m / Tl-201 line infusion
At low-energy SPECT photopeaks, lead-only shielding in a compact form factor is sufficient. The compact lead-only variant fits the routine SPECT-isotope IV-line-shielding use case at lower chassis weight.
Bedside patient transport
The IV-pole-cut β/γ variant lets the cabinet ride on a standard IV pole from the radiopharmacy hot lab to the patient bedside or back to the ward — keeping the infusion shielded across corridor traverse and minimising the staff dose attributed to transport.
AERB-licensed theranostic suite
A theranostic-suite licence application has to identify the shielded equipment for each patient-administration step. The variant matrix lets the AERB licensee map per-isotope work onto a specific tier with traceable specs and ISO documentation.
Why Saxsons™ Shielded Infusion Pump Shield?
For Lu-177 and Y-90 the shielding order matters as much as the total thickness. A low-Z absorber (Perspex / acrylic / PMMA) inside stops the β with minimal bremsstrahlung; high-Z (lead) outside catches the residual γ and any bremsstrahlung that did get through. Inverted order — lead first — turns the lead into a bremsstrahlung source. The β/γ hybrid variant is built in the correct order; the Perspex is the inner wall, the lead is the outer wall.
Riveira-Martin et al. (EJNMMI Physics 2023) measured 32 administrations of 7.4 GBq Lu-177 DOTATATE across 2 physicians and 4 nurses. Result: the administration step alone — patient-side, infusion pump running — accounted for 69 % of the total staff dose, even though it was only 19 % of the procedure time. This cabinet wraps exactly that step. Shielding the dispensary alone leaves the dominant dose pathway unprotected.
One-size-fits-all leaves you either over-shielded (chassis weight, transport ergonomics) or under-shielded (operator extremity dose). The variant matrix — lead-only tiers for SPECT / I-131 / lower-energy work, plus the Perspex + lead β/γ hybrid — lets the radiopharmacist pick the right tier per isotope class, with the same lead-glass viewing window and the same acrylic chassis family across the matrix.
